The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Afghanistan is responsible for implementing a number of projects on behalf of the Government of Afghanistan and the aid donor community. The Afghanistan Operations Centre (AGOC) has been set up as an organizational mechanism to deliver a range of projects for which UNOPS has been designated as the Implementing Agency.
The functional objective of UNOPS AGOC is to deliver its projects in an efficient and effective manner, so as to achieve the outcomes sought by the project and to assist in the development goals of the Government of Afghanistan. The stated goal is to provide implementation services to the Government of Afghanistan, the donor community and partner agencies in the reconstruction and
development of Afghanistan. The adopted mission of UNOPS is to exceed the expectations of our stakeholders.
Job Summary
The Security Guard is accountable to the AFOH Field Security Advisor through his chain of command (i.e. Project Manager) for the performance of the official duties. The incumbent is expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities, but not limited to:
Duties and Responsibilities
• Conduct 100% ID card check for staff, personnel and visitors.
• Search of all vehicles entering UN compounds
• Willingness to work set shifts and cover alternate shifts when necessary
• Search visitors and packages entering UN compounds.
• Check the removal/outgoing items and ensure that paper release and documentation is completed.
• Maintain log/occurrence book and ensure that paper entries are made.
• Conduct traffic control at the gates and exit points when necessary.
• Report any security related information, incident and irregularities to the Project Manager of the Field Security Adviser
• Assist staff and personnel as and when required
Compound and Perimeter Patrol
• Conduct compound and perimeter patrol on a regular basis.
• Check and ensure that the perimeter fence/walls are intact.
• Report any suspicious persons, vehicles or objects.
• Check all UN/UNOPS vehicles parked inside the compound car park. Alternate parking should be arranged for other agency and VIP vehicles without jeopardizing the free movement of official vehicles.
• Perform patrol duties and physically check all office doors and ensure that they are securely locked after office hours
• Report any irregularities and ensure follow up security action is taken.
• Check and ensure that firefighting equipments are in place
• Ensure post rotations as advised and to cover additional shifts when required
• Perform other duties assigned
Qualification
• Secondary Diploma desirable
• Minimum 1 years of experience in security and safety services
• Excellent knowledge of Afghanistan cultures and security regulations
• Previous relevant experience with UN/UNOPS, local or international organizations an asset
• Fluent in the local language of the duty station
• Intermediate English skills (speaking, reading and writing) a must
• Demonstrate a client-oriented approach, courtesy, confidentiality, tact and ability to work with people of different national cultural backgrounds
• High sense of responsibility; operate in compliance with security and safety regulations and rules
• Ability to complete various forms and records, including incident and accident reports
• Remains calm, in control even under pressure
• Must be willing to work longer hours, weekends and in shifts when required
