Operational Security Coordinator

General Function
Reporting to Internews Director of Operational Security and Program Support Team, the Operational Security Coordinator will support and strengthen Internews global security program. He/She will assist in creating Standard Operating procedures and contingency plans for field programs, while supporting Internews programs in logistics and operations. The ideal candidate will have strong administrative experience, be technically savvy, strong writing skills, and have experience in security issues. International work or extensive international travel experience, in security and/or development, is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilites  include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Improves overall organizational capacity in safety, security and crisis management in conjunction with the Director of Operational Security.
Manage specific safety and security management systems and procedures.
Stand in as acting Director of Operational Security, fulfilling his /her duties while on foreign travel assignment or vacation, to nuclide primary point of contact for global security matters, emergency responses, and communications.
Lead the coordination of rapid deployment to field locations to include pre-planning, travel, logistical checklists, implementation tracking, and after-action reports.
Evaluate and make recommendation for improvement upon security standard operating procedures, policies and internal/field protocol.
Coordinates and attends meetings and security briefings, take and distribute minutes.
Act as primary administrative contact on all SOPs and if needed, rapid deployment support to field locations.
Track, document, and file security incidences and provide updates to Director.
Track movement of Internews staff worldwide as directed.
Act as secondary security contact for all Internews employees.
Coordinate trip/assignment briefings and debriefings for Internewsers as requested by Director of Operational Security.
Draft and provide regular updates of internal safety materials, plans, and policies
Collect security related information from the field offices: SAT phone testing, emergence contact updates, ect.

Planning and organizing – Excellent planning and organizational skills including the production of policy and procedure papers supporting corporate security. Demonstrated ability to set priorities and manage time effectively;
Communication – Ability to provide instructions and communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing using technologies such as webinars and PPTs. A high sense of discretion and integrity when dealing with sensitive information.
Judgment and Decision Making – High degree of responsibility, initiative, alertness, physical fitness, emotional stability. Demonstrates sound judgment and strong analytical and problem-solving abilities in security planning and information management skills.
Client Orientation – Professional attitude and the ability to build successful working relationships with contacts outside of the project Security Section. Demonstrate an integrated approach and attitude through normal work activities and a thorough understanding of our client in the country of operation.
Technology Awareness – High standard of computer literacy and an excellent knowledge of security information related liaison and analysis.

QUALIFICATIONS
At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in information management and policy administration.
Experience living and working outside the United States, especially within Internews programs footprint strongly preferred.
Experience working in a [high risk] humanitarian environment, preferably with an NGO or UN organization
Ability to research and perform threat analysis, strong analytical skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team in a flexible, dynamic environment.
Ability and willingness to travel, including travel to hostile environments.
Fluency in written and spoken English required; French, Arabic, or Russian language skills desirable.
Legally authorized to work in the United States.
University degree preferred; years of experience in security planning and analysis can be used in lieu of education.
Solid writing skills and demonstrated extensive experience in report writing and spreadsheets to include all MS office applications
In depth knowledge of the development of security policies and procedures consistent with operations in a high risk environment.
Ability to think under pressure and to make decisions as fast as situation requires.
Excellent communication skills with an ability to deliver key messages in a succinct and timely manner.
