The CMPB Division contributes to sustainable peace through the improved management of conflicts and provision of security by stakeholders. It supports policy development and implementation (including gender), capacity building and research, and analysis in the area of conflict management and peace building. The division has a large capacity building component that conducts, for example, pre-deployment peacekeeping training; training on how to cope with humanitarian emergencies; gender-specific training; and capacity building to strengthen CSO and parliamentarians’ participation in, and oversight of, the security sector. The division increases awareness among stakeholders through relevant and timely research, analysis, and policy dialogues on topical issues related to peacekeeping and peace building, maritime security, security sector reform and gender, peace and security.

Coordinated from Pretoria, the division works in the following thematic areas: Conflict management and peace building; Training for Peace; Security sector reform and governance; Gender, peace and security, and Maritime security.

Requirements:
The successful candidate will be a person with proven professional competence, with a minimum of a Masters degree in international relations, African politics, or other relevant field;

Relevant work experience within a policy, politics, research or professional environment; Experience in managing, and involvement in research projects related to African maritime security and climate/environment;

Successful organisation, facilitation and participation in African maritime security related events;

Experienced in managing project financial and administrative aspects with well developed interpersonal skills;

Experienced in knowledge and website management;

Ability to network and interact on a regular basis with stakeholders on Africa maritime issues;

Contributed or involved in relevant publications that focus on aspects of maritime security such as piracy, food security and environmental influences affecting maritime and human security;

Excellent English writing and verbal skills;

Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;

Willingness to travel extensively throughout Africa.

Salary: Competitive salary offered. The length of the contract will be for two years and will be renewable subject to future funding.
