Corporate Security Manager

Job Description:
PURPOSE STATEMENT:To provide effective management, leadership and strategy in the planning and implementation of security policies, services and compliance to ensure the protection of enterprise personnel, facilities and properties (including leased locations).

SUMMARY:
Manages the AFHI Enterprise Services Group, which includes the security function in Lansing, and serves as an internal enterprise security manager and consultant to the other operating companies. Serves as a subject matter expert on local and enterprise issues and as a security resource for human resources and other business partners at their respective facilities. Acts as a liaison to all enterprise departments on security measures, procedures, and needs. As requested, inspects enterprise buildings and grounds and proposes measures to ensure protection from intruders, fire hazards, theft, and vandalism. Develops and contributes to the development and implementation of consistent safety and emergency procedures, responds to incidents, and resolves problems or requests assistance of local authorities.

RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:
Provides training for security officers as well as handling notification and coordination of day-to-day facility staffing issues to address security concerns.
Securing buildings, property, personnel, and establishing/maintaining systems and processes to insure proper security as well as compliance with fire and safety codes.
Writes incident reports and investigates critical incidents.
Provides security and safety for Lansing based Accident Fund events as required and consults with subsidiary locations for special events security plans
Develops security plans and provides direction to internal and external security staff on how to handle situations. .
Provides Safety training for enterprise employees.
Participates on various local committees, including the Health and Safety committee.
Serves as Liaison with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Security.
Works at the direction of human resources as requested to investigate threats of violence or other employee issues, and provides assistance during employee disciplines/dismissals. .
Maintains a day-to-day liaison with all local law enforcement agencies and enterprise law enforcement agencies as required at enterprise properties and facilities.
Works with Facilities Manager to provide daily housekeeping tasks with regard to local building security access card system including, but not limited to moves, adds and changes, as required and serves as a consultant and resource for similar enterprise activities.
Participates in development of annual departmental budget, monitor budget and identify budget discrepancies. Research cause and make recommendations.
Responsibility for balancing workload to optimize the effectiveness of the department.
In absence of, or as needed, serves in the capacity of Security Officer (transports/escorts employees, patrols grounds and buildings, inspects equipment, provides security services),



DIRECTION EXERCISED:

Directly manages exempt and non-exempt staff (including remote employees at other locations) in accordance with company policies and applicable Federal and State Laws. Responsibilities include but are not limited to effectively interviewing, hiring, terminating, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and counseling employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; supporting and encouraging the engagement process.

Job Qualifications:
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION OR EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE:



Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, business or related field. Combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. 5 years experience in law enforcement or related area. Must possess and maintain a favorable background/security check and valid Michigan driver’s license. Requires at least two years of experience in supervising staff within a security/law enforcement environment, preferably in a corporate setting.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Requires valid Michigan driver’s license.
Chauffeur’s license (helpful but not required).
Good driving record. Prefer no greater than 3 points in last 12 months.
Current certification in CPR and First Aid from American Heart Association, American Red Cross or National Safety Counsel. (Required)

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA) REQUIRED:
Leadership ability and team building skills to effectively supervise professional and non-professional staff and interact with all levels of management
Ability to work with and empower others on a collaborative basis to ensure success of unit team.
Ability to effectively exchange information, in verbal or written form, by sharing ideas, reporting facts and other information, responding to questions and employing active listening techniques.
Ability to effectively prepare and present budgetary and/or cost information, and respond to questions as appropriate.
Knowledge of various fire safety alarms and devices.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proven ability to remain calm under emergency situations.
Knowledge of digital video and related surveillance systems and equipment.
Computer experience preferred for building access control systems, and general office applications.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to develop, propose and implement security and safety policies and strategies as required.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
Ability to apply the principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to make competent, independent decisions.
Ability to establish workflows, manage multiple projects, and meets necessary deadlines.
Ability to maintain confidentiality as appropriate.
Ability to perform other assignments at all enterprise locations and facilities.
