Position summary:
The Manager has the global responsibility to ensure a safe and secure environment for The Bank's physical assets, staff and customers. It is incumbent that all reviews, tasks undertaken are completed following security standards and procedures within set timelines. This includes summarizing the reviews with findings, identifying the risks, deficiencies and recommendations for timely resolution. As a security expert, the Manager is expected to provide educational presentations to staff globally, stressing on criminal trends, risks and preventative measures. He/she must maintain contact with external agencies/sources i.e. police, government & regulators worldwide to gain/gather information on crime prevention intelligence/strategies and ensure appropriate dissemination.
Key accountabilities:
Working in a team environment, assist in the prevention, detection and response strategy to deter/reduce criminal attacks against the physical assets, staff and customers of the Scotiabank Group, Subsidiaries and Affiliates. Key responsibilities include:
Proactively conduct thorough security reviews and threat risk assessments on the Bank's branches and offices ensuring sound security practices and measures are applied;
Research and compile travel advisories to identify criminal activities and risks worldwide i.e. kidnapping, political instability, environmental (climate, earthquakes) on behalf of traveling executives;
Complete timely reports on findings and recommendations and escalate to line management for review and dissemination to the stakeholders;
Respond to workplace violence, which includes investigating and reporting of incidents as required;
Assist with the pre-planning for Annual General Meetings and Board of Directors meetings i.e. intelligence gathering, advance security of sites, liaison with local authorities and ensuring enhanced onsite security for the Bank executives;
Develop and make presentations on evolving criminal trends, associated risks and preventative measures to staff;
Cultivate relationships with external agencies i.e. police, government & regulators worldwide to secure vital crime prevention intelligence and disseminate as appropriate;
Assist with the updating of operational security standards and procedures manual in accordance with current legislation.
Qualifications:
Knowledge and understanding of the concepts of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)
Investigative, interviewing and negotiating skills
Knowledge of Criminal and relevant Federal & Provincial Statutes & Regulations in all jurisdictions where the Bank operates
Knowledge of police practices, methods and enforcement strategies
Interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
IT applications, systems and security controls
Knowledge of MS Office and software tools as applied to the position, including Lotus Notes
EDUCATION AND ACCREDITATIONS:
Security professional designation/certification as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP);
Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED).
OTHER INFORMATION:
The position requires travelling within Canada to conduct branch security reviews and at times to international locations where the Bank operates.
Fluency in English; Spanish/other languages desirable.
Must be available 7/24 to respond to emergencies.
Several years experience as a physical security consultant preferred
