National Grid is the largest utility in the UK and the second largest utility in the US. We play a vital role in delivering gas and electricity to many millions of people across Great Britain and the Northeast US in an efficient, reliable and safe manner.
You’ll also play an important role as you provide frontline expert advice and guidance on security issues to our UK business units. You’ll help to enable best practice, compliance and consistency across National Grid UK to ensure our people and assets are protected, and that our responses to threats and incidents are efficiently and correctly handled.
On a daily basis you will work closely with managers, staff and contractors to handle security performance and risk management, and you will support the development and delivery of major security projects (such as the Olympics, Construction Security, etc) as required. You’ll ensure you develop and maintain an in-depth expertise in specific areas (such as mitigation of threats from domestic extremism and police response/firearm plans to operational sites) and you’ll act as a role model for best practice to colleagues.
This is a truly visible role in which you will have significant engagement with key external stakeholders (Government Departments, Law Enforcement, Security Service) on the grounds of National Security, and you will be relied up on to represent National Grid at UK-wide security forums and develop effective networks.
An expert in your field you will have sufficient experience of designing, developing, implementing and managing security programs, together with a good knowledge of criminal statutes, court processes, relevant legislation and law enforcement. Ideally educated to HNC standard or equivalent in a security, business or technical subject you will have excellent analytical and organisational skills together with capabilities in admininistration, finance and management. Good communications and networking skills are essential and you should have a current full driving licence and a willingness to travel around the UK.
In addition to the excellent development opportunities our package includes: individual performance related bonus, a defined contribution pension scheme, 28 days holiday, and a comprehensive flexible benefits scheme that offers a range of lifestyle, health and protection benefits.
