Requirements
Advisor applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:
1. All advisor applicants must have a combined total of eight (8) years work experience, at least five (5) years of which are in their respective field (i.e. for police advisors federal, state, municipal, and county law enforcement service; for corrections advisors correctional service; for justice advisors as an attorney, judge, or justice sector professional; for specialist advisors, professional experience directly related to their advisor skill set).
2. Advisor applicants must be employed in the respective area of expertise for which they are applying (i.e. police officer, prosecutor, etc), or have retired/separated within the last five (5) years.
3. Advisor applicants must have adequate English communication skills Foreign Service Institute standard level 4 for writing, reading comprehension, speaking for U.S. citizens and level 3 for third country nationals).
4. Advisor applicants must possess a valid U.S. driver's license and the ability to operate a standard transmission vehicle. Third country nationals must possess an International Driving Permit.
5. Advisor applicants must have an unblemished background.
6. Advisor applicants must be in excellent health and able to pass the requisite physical, medical and psychological tests appropriate to assigned mission/country
7. Advisor applicants must possess a valid U.S. passport (for non – U.S. citizens, a valid passport from their country of citizenship).
Background investigations will be performed on all CJPS advisors and staff. Additional minimum qualifications will be addressed at the task order level as necessary.
Police Advisor trainers shall be certified as instructors by an accredited U.S. federal, state, municipal, or county law enforcement entity.
