Security and Safety Director
Islamabad, Pakistan
Reporting to the Country Director, with a dotted line to the Regional Security and Safety Officer, this position is a key member of the Senior Management Team. The incumbent of this position will ensure the implementation of effective systems maximizing the security and safety of a team of about 3,000 staff working in some of the most insecure areas of the country in both emergencies and development programming contexts.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Master’s degree or equivalent in planning or security and safety
At least 5-10 years’ field based experience in highly complex and insecure settings in preferably more than one country with teams of large numbers of staff
Long term INGO experience especially in the field of security leadership and management
A commitment to working constructively with members of other teams and a service oriented attitude
Understands the complexity and values of non-profit organizations
Willingness and ability to dramatically change work practices and hours, and work with incoming surge teams, in the event of emergencies.
Good communication, writing and presentation skills
Good Computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, internet)
Extensive knowledge of political and security situation in Pakistan and the region
Strong command of some of the local languages
Knowledge of local languages will be an asset
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
As a member of the Senior Management Team, contribute to:
Supporting and leading Country Office staff to ensure the maximum compliance to safety and security procedures
Assessment and Analysis
Able to present a theoretical and technical assessment of the threats and risks to the organization in Pakistan;
Gathering of information from a number of sources (including GOP, Civil Society and other key informants) and tabulate this information for analysis and presentation
Based on information gathered provide the management with security risk analysis relevant to our area of operations. This should be provided upon request, or as required according to situational development;
Post incident analysis and follow up on recommendations
Main S&S focal point with UN Agencies, INGOs, Govt of Pakistan, and others
