RedR is the leading training and recruitment charity working in the area of international disaster relief. We provide training, consultancy and support to relief organisations and their staff around the world, improving emergency response and assisting people affected by disaster. Through building skills and training people in countries where disasters occur, we make a lasting impact on the ground. In response to recent humanitarian catastrophes, we currently have training and local capacity building programmes in Sri Lanka following the devastating tsunami, in Sudan in response to the increasing destabilisation of the region.

THE ROLE

In this role, you will act as a focal point for matters relating to the safety and security of RedR staff and programmes in Sudan. In conjunction with the training team, you will capacity build RedR staff in technical aspects of security management and implement RedR’s security policy across field sites. You will be responsible for responding to safety and security management queries from NGOs as well as supporting the development and delivery of our courses and supporting field security assessments for new training locations. The post holder must be an experienced professional in this area, with some experience in training and facilitation.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The successful candidate will have strong technical competencies in safety management and experience with the NGO security management framework in relief, rehabilitation and recovery phases. Multidisciplinary safety and security management skills should be relevant to a volatile and dangerous environment and solid experience in participatory training in safety related subjects with a proven track record are key requirements. Familiarity with humanitarian operations, backed up by relevant experience in complex emergencies is essential. The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level, demonstrate cultural awareness, have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, fluent in spoken and written English, willing to learn Arabic and able to travel within Sudan.

TERMS

Based: Khartoum, Sudan

Period: Fixed term until the end Dec 2009

Accompanied status: Unaccompanied

Salary: £23,340 per annum gross

Benefits: Location allowance of £2200 per annum, return economy flights for staff, up to £100 luggage allowance (reimbursement basis), accommodation, household utilities (subject to a set ceiling), travel and medical insurance with emergency medical evacuation, 23 days leave per annum and rest and recuperation leave of 1 week every 3 months service.
