Department Global Risk Analysis

Job Purpose 
We are seeking a Consultant to join our Global Risk Analysis team in the Americas.
The successful candidate will cover political, operational and security risk developments in the Americas, with a primary focus on US and Canada and a secondary focus on Latin America.

The role will be based in Washington DC and will require some research and project travel in the US and Canada (10%). The role involves assisting with  analytical coverage of the US and Canada for our subscription products, working on major consulting projects, delivering briefings to clients and participating in conferences and other events. The role will require close collaboration with  teams of compliance specialists, security consultants and business development teams.

The successful candidate will possess a strong, specialist academic and/or professional background in the
social sciences with a focus on political analysis and an outstanding aptitude for thinking and writing analytically to a very high standard. They will have the ability to convey careful analytical judgment and complex information in a confident, persuasive and accessible manner to clients.

Tasks and responsibilities

General
Maintaining a high level of regional and country expertise through reading, desktop research
and attendance at relevant seminars.

Online services
Writing analytical reports on relevant developments in North America for online subscription products.
Working independently and with other analysts in other regions to respond to client inquiries through retainer services.
Collaborating with our joint venture partners to produce analytical reports.
Liaising with our Global Issues and Special Risks desks to ensure consistency on transnational topics.

Customized reports and projects
Undertaking research for tailored reports and projects under the direction of senior members of the political risk consulting team for the Americas.
Writing customized risk assessments for individual clients and contributing to wider consultancy projects.
Liaising with clients and assisting analysts and consultants in scoping proposals for tailored consultancy work in the region.

Marketing and business development
Contributing where necessary to company-wide promotional publications, press releases and sales initiatives.
Representing the political risk consulting team at conferences and seminars.
Supporting account managers through contextual input to business development initiatives and showcasing analytical talent to individual clients.
Identifying business opportunities for the company in general and for political risk services in particular.

Networking and sources
Liaising regularly with fellow analysts and consultants across the region.
Developing and maintaining government, academic, journalistic and business contacts.

Knowledge and experience

Essential
Awareness and understanding of key political, operational, integrity, social and security risk
issues in the wider Americas region.
Knowledge and understanding of the policymaking process in the US and Canada.
Familiarity with business-focused research.

Preferred
Established contacts with political and security experts in the US.
Detailed knowledge or professional experience of key industry sectors operating in the
region, such as mining, oil and gas, financial services and technology.
Academic or professional training in political analysis and/or risk assessment.
Professional experience with public or client-facing presentations.

Qualifications and specialist skills

Essential
Undergraduate degree in relevant social sciences (politics, international affairs, journalism,
history, etc.).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Ability to write clearly, concisely and authoritatively to tight deadlines.
Ability to identify and interpret events and developments of potential interest or concern to companys’ client base.
Data literacy, quantitative analysis and computer office suite skills.

Preferred
Postgraduate degree in relevant social sciences (politics, international affairs, journalism,
history, etc.)
Ability to write and speak fluent Spanish and/or Portuguese.
Previous professional experience of political risk analysis.
Previous professional experience in the private sector.
Practical knowledge of data analytics and visualization solutions (e.g., Tableau, Neo4j,
Python, R, SQL).
Practical experience of living, working and/or traveling in Latin America.
