Description

The International Monetary Fund is looking to hire a Security Officer - Africa Region to join its International Security Section in the IMF headquarters. This is a contractual appointment for two years, renewable for up to four years of a cumulative contractual service pending incumbent's performance and continuous business need. 

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Security Officer and under direction of the Chief of the International Security Section, the Security Officer - Africa Region (Regional Security Advisor) plans and carries out the IMF’s field security operations for the assigned region. Primary functions include monitoring the security situation worldwide; conducting security risk assessments; providing briefings to IMF personnel; assisting in the development of international security policies; coordinating emergency responses; drafting security and safety guidance for management, Executive Directors, IMF staff, technical experts, and other IMF employees traveling on mission or assigned to overseas locations; advising as to how best to protect IMF information and physical assets at overseas locations.


 

Specific duties and responsibilities:

Collect, collate and analyze security threat information.
Provide timely situation assessments and recommendations for action during security incidents affecting the IMF.
Conduct country security risk assessments in assigned region to determine risk levels for IMF personnel and operations.
Prepare daily and weekly security reports covering significant security-related incidents and provide analysis of how each event impacts the overall safety and security of IMF personnel and operations.
Prepare and deliver security briefings for IMF missions travelling to high-risk locations.
Prepare security communiqués to update IMF personnel on major security developments and their potential impact on IMF operations.
Provide regular updates on recent security developments in high-risk locations in the assigned region.
Establish productive liaison with security departments at the UN, the World Bank, diplomatic missions and vendor security information providers.
Establish and sustain close working relationships with IMF managers and field-based IMF personnel to exchange security information and provide advice.
Provide security advice and assistance to other regions as necessary and undertake other tasks as assigned. Security Officer is to take the lead in working groups among several Security Officers, or, on occasion, alone or primary workload in initiatives such as EAP program administration, Compliance administration, database and geocoding development, advice sheet development, document management, after action reviews, GSOC training and instruction, support for Security Services’ training programs and other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications

Educational development, typically acquired by the completion of an advanced university degree, or equivalent, in international relations, political science, or security risk management or a related field; or a university degree, or equivalent, supplemented by a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience.



Skills and Experience:

Previous work experience in a security role in the UN system is preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of security analysis and risk assessments or physical security or security operations and planning.
Fluency in English
Superior spoken and written communications; candidate must be comfortable speaking in front of large audiences.
A strong customer service focus and ability to build and maintain trusting client relationships in a multicultural environment.
Work productively in a small team environment as well as individually.
Must be comfortable in operating in a high stress environment requiring short deadlines and be able to provide reasoned and immediate advice and assistance during emergencies with little or no supervision.
Availability to work on emergency situations during off-hours; if necessary, for an extended period of time.
Experience in creating and managing electronic databases is preferred.
