Security Policy Advisor , Middle East

The Role

Yemen is a country in continuous crisis. More than half its population live below the poverty line and are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. In this challenging role you will ensure that the country security strategy is adjusted to standard developments, implemented, monitored and with reviews as per Security Management Procedures (SMP), being consistent with Oxfam policies and requirements.

Essential Skills & experience
Considerable practical experience of security assessment, planning and implementation of procedures in the context of UN or NGO humanitarian operations.
Proven influencing and negotiating skills with internal and external audiences including in complex and stressful circumstances.
Proven experience of training products and skill transfer.
Ability to advice and support field staff in a consultative manner.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, together with the capacity to remain calm under pressure and not lose sight of strategic priorities. Must be highly organised, efficient and able to delegate.
A strong understanding of the importance of gender and security policies.
Strong ability articulate and convince for change.
Sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to work in a wide variety of cultural contexts.
Willingness to travel at short notice, and often in difficult circumstances.
Committed to Oxfam principles.
Ability to speak English and ideally a working knowledge of the local language Arabic.

Contract Length: Until 30 June 2018

It is Oxfam’s policy to hire at the minimum to middle of the band, depending upon the skills and experiences of the strongest candidate.

This role is open to both national and non nationals. Successful candidates who will be required to relocate internationally to take up the role will be provided with a competitive international relocation package.
