As the Safety and Security Manager you will take a lead role in organizational safety, security, crisis planning and management in order to lead a global duty of care program for approximately 450+ employees in all countries in which Ipas operates. The Safety and Security Manager must be committed to strengthening employee and organizational capacity to prevent and respond effectively to threats to Ipas employees, property, and reputation. The position must provide Ipas with expert guidance and a toolkit of resources, and will skillfully establish trusting, productive relationships across the globe and at all levels of the organization. S/he will lead Ipas’s crisis response and recovery to achieve the best security outcomes possible when and where crises occur. Serves as a subject matter expert in safety and security and develops policies, procedures, plans, tools and systems and ensures implementation across all offices to mitigate risk and realize operational effectiveness and efficiency in this functional area.

Responsibilities:

Lead Ipas’s duty of care portfolio through the development, strengthening, implementation, and maintenance of safety and security systems, policies and procedures, protocols, tools, and trainings
Serve as the organization’s 24/7 focal point, contact person and expert resource to approximately 450 Ipas staff around the globe for safety and security matters
Liaise with NGO/INGOs and other relevant partners on matters of safety and security and remain informed of global safety/security events and trends at all times
Build global organizational capacity on safety/security topics and provide ongoing, tailored mentorship to network of US and field-based security leads. Support all Ipas offices to strengthen and operationalize office safety and security plans and protocols. With country directors and/or management, ensure implementation across all Ipas offices, business locations or events
Regularly evaluate and support revisions to organizational safety and security plans including those that ensure business continuity such as disaster, pandemic or other local contingency plans
Leverage technology solutions and maintain internal knowledge management pages pertaining to safety and security
Lead Ipas’s crisis response and recovery processes or programs, including the Crisis Management Team
Assist in risk prevention and manage corporate insurance policies relating to the safety and security of Ipas personnel and property
Collaborate across the organization to raise awareness, socialize and embed Ipas’s duty of care into existing function
Manage the NC office’s security contractors, systems and logistics, including conducting relevant safety/security trainings and drills, management of the surveillance and alarm equipment and systems
Provide orientation and safety and security briefings for staff new to Ipas and those traveling to other countries - ensure controls are in place to monitor staff travel and movement, as necessary
Establish solid systems, processes, and protocols for disseminating and communicating appropriate safety and security information and maintain a systematic reliable and redundant form of communicating breaking or emergency issues and messages to staff
Work closely with other departments and offices, including the Human Resources, for best practices, training, communication and support of staff
Conduct and support assessments of existing and new Ipas offices and provide technical assistance as needed
Address gaps and implement changes in organizational and employee safety/security policies, systems plans, and strategies
Proactively manage and/or find innovative and pragmatic solutions to various security situations or matters
Fulfill other related functions as required

Requirements:


Minimum
At least five years’ relevant work experience, of which at least two are in an international, safety/security management function
Experience developing and implementing security mechanisms, including methods of reporting and handling safety and security incidents and emergencies
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience
Fluency in written and spoken English
Highly organized and a self-starter - you strive to make systems better and build employee and organizational capacity
Willingness and ability to travel (up to 30%); including high risk areas
Strong computer skills, plus proficiency in MS Office and other communication programs and applications such as Skype and WhatsApp Preferred

Preferred
Experience working in conflict or high risk settings, ideally in a range of locations, with NGO/INGOs
Knowledge of working with and sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to adapt to different contexts
An ability to work in Spanish or French
Work experience in Asia, Africa, and/or Latin America
Demonstrated knowledge of and integration into the security framework and mechanisms of NGO/INGOs and other key security actors
