Role synopsis


The role of Regional Security Advisor exists to protect BP's people, assets and reputation from the security risks that result from criminal and hostile acts by:
supporting internal clients by providing deep functional expertise.
providing internal clients with an independent assessment of their security risks and corresponding management measures, including any remedial action plans.
when necessary, escalating concerns about serious security risks or inadequate remedial action plans.
Key accountabilities

Work with relevant team members and the senior leadership team in each client business or function (entity) to:
Systematically identify security hazards and assess risk. Security hazards include but are not limited to criminal conduct, intimidation, violence, sabotage, unauthorized access or damage to BP property and unauthorized access to, alteration, use or disclosure of information.
Implement and maintain plant, process, people and performance risk reduction measures identified as necessary to manage the risk, and use as an input to the entity risk register.
Develop, implement and update at least annually a security management plan based on the results of the hazard evaluation and risk assessment.
Develop internal security expertise within the client business or function and designate individuals as subject matter experts and security advisors to entity management.
Respond effectively to any serious incidents resulting from criminal or hostile acts.
Essential Education
Graduate/Professional level preferably in a security related discipline.
Essential experience and job requirements
At least 5 years’ experience in a responsible position within the Police, Military, Security Services, or other law enforcement agencies or as a professional security manager with commercial experience.
Strong track record of working effectively across different cultures, or experience of working in an international environment.
Working knowledge of criminal procedure and experience conducting investigations, preferably of fraud.
Will have training in and experience with industrial security environment and physical security systems.
Candidate must be fluent in written and spoken English.
Strong track record of working effectively with senior management, business clients, colleagues and external parties.

Desirable criteria & qualifications
An ability to converse in one of the regional languages would be an advantage; Spanish strongly preferred.
Membership of recognised industry associations (Security Institute, ISMA, ASIS, MISEC, etc.).
The candidate should demonstrate dynamism and energy together with strong communication and interpersonal skills; as the role will be vital to not only the public face of the company but also internally. This will be a lead coaching, guiding, mentoring and persuading position with interface at all levels of the organisation including senior executives. Maintenance and enhancement of relationships within the BP world-wide security network, other functions and business segments is essential.
