The Program

Australia Awards – Papua New Guinea (AAPNG) contributes to building a qualified workforce, filling critical human resource gaps and fostering leadership in the public and private sector of Papua New Guinea (PNG), thereby supporting the country’s economic, social and environmental development.

The Facility’s activities contribute to PNG citizens acquiring professional and technical skills and knowledge relevant to the priorities of the Government of PNG and developing networks in their professional fields and communities in ways that contribute to economic growth, good governance and social objectives including health and education. The program fosters people-to-people links between Australia and PNG and ensures opportunities are provided for women, people with disabilities and people from remote locations.



AAPNG includes three types of study options:

Australia Award scholarships for Papua New Guineans to study primarily postgraduate courses in Australia;
Australia Awards short courses for Papua New Guineans to undertake short term study in Australia, receiving an Australian qualification; and
In-Country scholarships for Papua New Guineans to study in PNG to meet critical workforce gaps and to contribute to strengthening local education institutions.
To deliver Australia Awards outcomes, there are four streams: Australia Awards; PNG and Pacific Awards; Outreach and Alumni; and Professional Development and Partnerships. Australia Awards – PNG is managed by Coffey, a Tetra Tech company, on behalf of the Australian Government.

The Position

The Health Safety and Security (HSS) Officer is responsible for the implementation of HSS activities for AAPNG operations including: program travel in PNG, movements/security in Port Moresby and work health and safety for the office.

The Person

The ideal candidate will have achieved Year 12 qualifications or higher and have experience in a similar role in the government, private or development sector. The role requires experience in

HSS and travel coordination, general office administration and liaison with suppliers. Candidates will also need high level inter-personal and communication skills for building and maintaining relationships internally and externally with suppliers and other stakeholders.
