The Opportunity

As part of Plan International's global strategy and focus over the next 5 years, the organisation aims to increase their involvement in fragile and conflict affected countries. Ensuring the safety and security of more than 8000 staff in more than 50 countries will be critical and as such we have an exciting opportunity for a Director of Safety and Security to play a vital role in this.

Whilst primarily an advisory role to senior management, the Director is expected to lead on global safety and security policy and standards, provide technical advice, monitor safety and security trends and review and design effective security and crisis management strategies.

They will operate in a leadership capacity, representing Plan externally and networking with key stakeholders to ensure staff safety and security preparedness, planning and response in all global offices.

The Person

Plan International are looking for an effective and motivational leader with extensive safety and security experience in an international, multi-cultural environment.

You should have advanced knowledge of safety and security trends and UN standards for communications policy, procedure and report writing.

Skilled in gaining credibility and influence, you must be experienced in the line and matrix management of multi-disciplinary teams and be able to communicate with real impact to external audiences.

Exposure to conflict situations, fluency in English and the ability to travel are essential, whilst French and/or Spanish language skills would be highly desirable.
