Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)  
Working to the Post Security Manager (PSM) and the Regional Overseas Security Manager (ROSM), the Security Co-ordinator role is to be the coordination person for the Embassy security team, providing a support and administration role.

The successful applicant will be responsible for providing support to the security management of all Embassy premises in Beijing and providing administrative support as specified by the Post Security Manager or the Regional Overseas Security Manager. The successful applicant will provide a vital link between the Security Office and the Post Security Officer (PSO), working alongside the Embassy’s security management team.

As well as this role primarily being administrative, there is an important liaison role: at times acting as the interface between a wide range of stakeholders and staff (UK-based and locally-engaged), other security personnel, and members of the public. The role calls for a confident, articulate person who can project a presence, but also someone who can display empathy and calmness under pressure. Credibility will be important.




Appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to Overseas Security Clearance. Due to the security clearance level required for this position, this vacancy is open only to the following:

Nationals from the UK who have spent at least two (2) years out of the last five (5) years in the UK;
Nationals from the UK who have Diplomatic status in China ('W' visa holder);
Other nationals from EU countries, the USA, Canada, New Zealand, or Australia providing they have Diplomatic status in China ('W' visa holder).



Position responsibilities are as follows:

Security Co-ordination: Responsible for assisting the ROSM and PSM (and Deputising in the absence of the PSM as required) in the day to day security management of the ISS guard force and the mission in accordance with FCO Guidance.
Beijing Clearance Hub: Management of staff logs for arrivals and departures and overseeing Beijing Clearance Hub and Events mail boxes.
Event security co-ordination: Working with the PSM and with Embassy sections to ensure the smooth security and safety management of Embassy events at HMA residence, in the Embassy compound, and at the Kerry Centre offices.
Fire safety management: Assisting the PSM and Fire Safety Manager with administrative duties for all aspects of fire safety management in the Embassy, Kerry Centre offices, and Residence.
Crisis management: Be familiar with post Crisis Management Plan (CMP), in particular the security role within the plan, and take part in crisis exercises and attend team leaders' workshops/ meetings when necessary. Maintain the China Network telephone lists for day to day use and in the event of a crisis.
Developing the role: Carry out tasks as requested by the ROSM, PSO and the PSM.
Essential qualifications and experience
Working in a demanding environment, with an ability to solve fast-moving problems.
Interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate well.
Able to work flexibly to meet ever changing needs and understand that working hours are less flexible in this role.
Previous experience of administrative work in a team environment.
Able to work quickly and under pressure, have an eye for detail, and able to handle senior contacts on the phone and in person effectively.
Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
Good working knowledge of MS Office software.
Desirable qualifications and experience
Former military/ police or previous security experience.
Health and safety experience/ qualification.
Understanding of crisis management and emergency procedures.

We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary, good leave entitlement, and insurance plan, etc. The abated monthly salary is CNY 16,230/ month for British Nationals and spouses/ partners (all nationalities) of diplomats who are ‘W’ (diplomatic) visa holders and meet passport criteria.
