Key Purpose
The Officer Training School located at the Ahmed Bin Mohammed Military College (ABMMC) provides high quality command, staff and tactical operations training to selected officers of the Qatar Armed Forces (QAF).  Virtual Battlespace (VBS) training plays a key part in the syllabus of all courses and the primary role of the Chief Instructor VBS, is to lead the development of an integrated programme of VBS training activities which meet Customer requirements, exploiting synthetic training alongside classroom and field training to maximise its training and educational impact.  The role holder will also develop and validate discreet VBS training activities, before jointly delivering training with senior QAF instructors, offering direction and advice to students, and post-event analysis of student performance.  In addition, the role holder will be required to develop and present QAF leadership with advice and recommendations of development of VBS training.  The Chief Instructor, VBS Training will be focussed on providing excellent service to the customer.

Reason for role
The role is required to ensure timely development and delivery of Virtual Battlespace (VBS) training to selected officers drawn from the Qatar Armed Forces, as part of their specialist command, staff and tactical training, in accordance with the requirements of the Customer.  The role holder will be required to apply their experience of tactical and joint operations during the development of VBS training activities, to ensure that training scenarios are credible and deliverable, and to provide mentoring and student assessment input during delivery of VBS training events.

Structure and reporting relationship
The post holder will report directly to the Director of Programmes, but will frequently be tasked directly by the QAF Chief Instructor Officer Training School, and the Serco Contract Director.  The post holder is responsible for the management, tasking and professional development of one specialist subordinate.  Additionally, the post holder is required to develop and sustain a close working relationship with the senior Customer VBS instructor and his subordinate VBS staffs.

Key Accountabilities
Day-to-day management of all VBS training activities delivered by Serco at the Officer Training School, ABMMC
Lead development of an integrated VBS Training programme meeting Customer needs and expectations, ensuring appropriate allocation of training resources.
Provide subject matter advice to scenario development applying extant and emerging doctrine and Tactics, Techniques and Procedures to improve the quality and utility of VBS training events.
Lead scenario review to ensure credibility and contemporary relevance
Oversee the creation of agreed scenarios in the VBS software, managing the workload of the subordinate technical specialist accordingly
Brief students as required on each VBS training event.
Jointly manage the delivery of VBS training events with the QAF VBS instructor, supported by the specialist technician VBS.  Training services may include individual, collective, and battle staff training.
Provide students with direction, mentoring and feedback during and after each VBS training event
Contribute to student assessment
Act as subject matter expert for Serco delivered VBS training
Provide the Serco management interface, integration and, where requested, support to the QAF VBS military and technical management and staff.
Apply critical thinking and demonstrate exceptional written and oral communications skills to provide highly innovative complex solutions to complex technical problems.

Essential qualifications
Recently (within past 3 years) retired British Army officer (SO2/SO1)
Previous military training and exercise experience, including the use of VBS
Recent (within past 5 years), ideally joint, operational experience in a contemporary operating environment such as Iraq, Afghanistan and/or Libya, operating at the tactical through to operational levels of warfare

Essential technical, professional skills, knowledge and essential experiences
A hands-on and ‘can do’ approach to service delivery
A manager and team player with strong interpersonal skills
A sound understanding of adult learning methodologies
A thorough understanding of UK national and NATO tactical and operational level doctrine
An appreciation of QAF tactical doctrine and their current Tactics, Techniques and Procedures
Previous service as Directing Staff at ICSC(L) would be an advantage
A knowledge of the Arabic language would be an advantage

Additional dimensions, KPIs or special features of the role
Identify opportunities for incorporation of VBS training into other courses delivered by Serco at the ABMMC.
Provide subject matter advice to Serco and QAF management on other projects as required.
Ensure compliance with the Serco Management System and all relevant business processes, procedures and work instructions to deliver all work with appropriate quality and governance standards
Ensure security and integrity of all data provided including reporting performance, finance and customer information; reference Serco non-disclosure policy
To exercise personal duty of care for their own health, safety and welfare and for those affected by their acts or omissions; reference SMS GSOP-HSE1-6 Serco organisational HSE responsibilities
Ensure compliance with all training requirements of Serco and  ensure adherence to these requirements at all times whilst in employment
