Position Summary:
In charge of all daily security operations on board and while in port, including training of the crew and training of all security department guards

In order to consistently exceed guest expectations and provide the highest levels of product and services, additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.



Essential Duties
He/She is a three (3) stripe officer. NOTE: For all ISPS/MTSA and Ship Security Plan (SSP) related issues, the security officer is designated as the Deputy Ship Security Officer (DSSO).
He/She acts as the main investigator concerning any accident/incident that may occur amongst the Guests and Crew and requires detailed investigation. The Security Officer shall submit required reports upon completion of the investigation (i.e., incident/accident). The Security Officer will develop, establish, and maintain proprietary control of investigative information or other pertinent or significant data of Guest and Crew for a minimum of two years.
Shall be familiar with and active in the Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SEMS), including his responsibility in the Safety Organization according to the Emergency Plan and Station Bill.

Will maintain timely entries in the vessels security logbook and will be responsible to insure the orderly flow and control of all security related reports.
Will countersign the Night Security Guard Log Book and investigate all incidents logged when required.
Is responsible for training and scheduling of Security Guards assigned to the vessel.
Will compile and distribute gangway list of authorized crew allowed off vessel in port in concert with appropriate Custom and Immigration clearance requirements worldwide.
The duties and responsibilities of the Security Officer include, but are not limited to:

Undertaking regular security inspections of the ship to ensure that appropriate security measures are maintained;
Maintaining and supervising, the implementation of the Ship Security Plan, and monitoring, the continuing relevance and effectiveness of the Plan, including the undertaking of internal audits and any amendments to the Plan;
Coordinating, the security aspects of the handling of cargo and ship's stores with other shipboard personnel and with the relevant Port Facility Security Officers;
Proposing modifications to the Ship Security Plan;
Reporting to the Company Security Officer any deficiencies and non-conformities identified during internal audits, periodic reviews, security inspections and verifications of compliance, and implementing any corrective actions;
Enhancing security awareness and vigilance on board;
Ensuring that adequate training has been provided to shipboard personnel, as appropriate;
Reporting all security incidents and completing SEMS forms;
Coordinating implementation of the Ship Security Plan with the Company Security Officer and the relevant Port Facility Security Officer;
Ensuring that any security equipment is properly operated, tested, calibrated, and maintained.
