Arabic Linguist in Iraq

Description

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security – Worldwide Protective Services (WPS) II contract request for Linguist Support to be performed as mission requires in Iraq. Language Support Services will be conducted on a deployment rotation (three months on / one month off, for a total of 9 months of OCONUS performance within a 12 month period). In furtherance of this mission, FedSys is currently seeking CAT II Linguists who are fluent in at least one of the following languages: Arabic-Modern Standard, Arabic-Iraqi (Preferred) as well as proficiency in English. This position provides travel accommodations (If applicable).

Duties and Responsibilities

Interpret and/or translate in order to facilitate verbal and written communications between non English speaking (Arabic) and English speaking individuals. Service forums include meetings, briefings, training and/or operational support. The prerequisite target language (Arabic) skills and proficiency levels for each position/labor category will be defined in each task order.


Ensuring professional performance during working hours; demonstrating appropriate personal behavior during leisure hours.

Prompt and regular attendance.

Other duties as assigned by senior FedSys management.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Oral and written knowledge of Arabic and English language at ILR standards

Near native proficiency in reading, writing and speaking in Arabic

Must also have near native proficiency in reading, writing and speaking in English

Has a good understanding of regional dialects

Adheres to translation and interpretation protocols

Interface

Be able to work with U.S. State Department officials/personnel and local Iraqis.

Security Requirements

The selected individual must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening as a condition of employment. The selected individual may/will be subject to a Government security background investigation and must meet eligibility and suitability requirements. Currently, Linguists must possess and maintain a Secret security clearance for the duration of employment. Clearance level requirement may be subject to change at the government’s discretion. In this event, you will be required to obtain and maintain the required clearance for the duration of your employment. Incumbent may be selected at a higher or lower clearance level as specified by any change made by the Government.

The selected individuals must be a US citizen.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here may be austere and that of a hostile work environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands along with fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Work Environment

The work environment may be hostile and austere.

Educational / Work Experience

Must have proven language proficiency in both English and Arabic, expertise in Iraqi dialect preferred

Experience as a Linguist/Translator required

Must have knowledge/familiarity of weapons handling

Prior experience in Protection Services desired

Prior OCONUS Translation/Interpretation Related Experience preferred

Professional/Certification Requirements

Must be able to meet ILR Standards on Arabic and English Testing

Must be able to complete any training required for OCONUS performance
