Main purpose of job:

To act as the Embassy’s Post Security Manager, reporting to the Deputy Post Security Officer (DPSO) on Embassy security matters.
Responsible for supervising the team of five Security upervisors to ensure security of the Embassy compound; staff and families; and visitors to the Embassy; including through effective supervision and control of the contract guard force.
To Line Manage the Security Supervisor team, including agreeing annual objectives; carrying out Mid Appraisal Reviews; writing annual appraisals (countersigned by DPSO)


Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
Attend Post Security Committee meetings;
Daily contract management for the contract guard force, including producing monthly Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports and working with the guard force to resolve any issues raised through KPIs;
Train and supervise the Security Supervisor team and contract guards;
Supervise and, where necessary, arrange maintenance of security fences, gates and other barriers;
Oversee control of access arrangements;
Provide duty roster for the Security Supervisors, ensuring periodic patrols and security checks outside normal working hours;
Assist DPSO in conducting periodical physical security checks of residences, including surveys before leasing;
Assist DPSO with the recruitment of replacement Security Supervisors, including during interviews for employment;
Administration of the armoured vehicle, conduct checks in accordance with the Armoured Vehicle Policy;
Account for and be able to operate and arrange maintenance of security equipment, e.g. metal detectors; x-ray mail scanners;
Assist with visits by the Regional Overseas Security Manager and Overseas Security Advisers and lead on certain recommendations;
Conduct practices of emergency response drills;
Assist with the operation of the new digital radio, and CCTV systems;
Examine suspect parcels and letters for improvised explosive devices and control routine searches for arms and explosive devices;
Report and record any breaches of security and investigate and report any security related incidents;
Attend regular meetings of OSAC (Overseas Security Advisory Committee);
Support DPSO/PSO in regular meetings with Copebe management; Diplomatic Police; etc.
Co-ordinate works requests to the CS team for security matters, including maintenance of the Gurkha House.

5 x A2 Security Supervisors.

Supervision and training of contract guard force (currently Copebe).
Essential qualifications and experience


Essential on arrival:
Previous military or police career
