PSS Explosive Detection Dog (EDD) (S) Kennel Master - (EDKM)

Note: In addition to the below requirements, candidate must also meet the requirements of three (3) years of Protective Security experience and One (1) year of the three, shall include experience in providing high threat protective services. Experience can be gained in the employ of any national, State/Provincial, Local or commercial entities.

EDDKM shall have responsibility for the safe and efficient control, handling and disposal of all explosive training aids; shall ensure that all training aids are handled in accordance with established protocols and all good practices to avoid cross contamination of the explosive odors; shall maintain full inventory control and maintain all records pertaining to the EDD program at post.

All K9 Kennel Masters will have completed a minimum 3 hours block of instruction to include:
Recognition of IED's and explosives materials. This block will be both generic and specific to their country of assignment
Safe explosive handling/ Explosives storage protocols/ Explosives transportation protocols
Training in protocols to preclude cross contamination of explosive odors used in training and testing
Testing procedures as required by WPPS Phase 1 and Phase 2 Testing
Phase 1 Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms Odor Recognition Test (NORT)
Phase 2 North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA) certification test

These records shall be maintained for a minimum of three years after the dog has left the program.

This position / labor category is staffed in accordance with the requirements described below:
The EDKM is designated as Support (S)
The EDKM is required to attend the non-PSS WPS training course, as outlined in this contract
The EDKM handler is required to maintain weapons qualification, as outlined in this contract, with the Glock and the M4
The EDKM vetted personnel are authorized to permanently fill the position / labor category of the EOD in case of shortages with the approval from HTP
Manage and maintain kennel
Conduct in-country training of K-9s
Ensure quality control of K9 Teams
Safely maintain controlled substances used as training aids
Detect explosive materials and devices
Prevent the unauthorized introduction of explosive devices or matter
Maintain K9 training records to meet contract requirements
Perform other functions as directed by the client


Job Requirements

U.S. Citizen
Valid U.S. issued passport and driver’s license
Level 3 English proficiency
Certified in accordance with North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA),
national/State/provincial military or law enforcement agency standards as a working K9
Handler.

Shall have a minimum of:
Two (2) years of service as an Explosives Detection Canine Trainer
One (1) year of security related experience. (Experience can be gained in the employ of any national, State/Provincial, Local or commercial entities providing high threat
protective services
Shall be able to recognize canine diseases, be familiar with hygiene requirements, and know the physical condition of the dog
Documentation of certification must accompany the resumes
