DRC Iraq is seeking a Safety Trainee to support operations country­wide. The ideal candidate is a

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in the drafting of advisories, guidance letters, addendum commentary to external reports and
other ad hoc documentation to raise awareness and effectively inform operations.

Assist in conveying procedures to staff to include presentations and trainings.
Assist in the completion of regular tasks such as updating of minimum operational safety standards
(MOSS), safety level ratings for all locations in Iraq and compilation of safety incident report data.
In concert with Safety staff, update safety documents such as local safety rules and pre­arrival
briefs.

Assist in the drafting and editing of safety assessments as required of office spaces, guesthouses
and warehouses to include the devising possible mitigation measures.
Serve as a point of contact for safety internally for DRC Iraq staff and externally with the Regional
office and others as required.
Make regular visits to field sites within DRC Iraq areas of operations.

Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline (political science, peace & conflict studies, history, etc.).
Naturally proactive with foresight, inclined to take initiative within guidance provided by line
manager.
Strong organizational skills and well­versed in data management.
Acquainted with existing threats in Iraq and willing to live/travel to its various conflict­affected
areas.

Preferred qualifications, attributes and experience:
Experience working practically on safety­related documentation such as analysis and exposure topolicies, plans and procedures.
Traveled in the Middle East.
A functional understanding of the cultural and political context of Iraq.
Master’s degree in relevant discipline (political science, peace & conflict studies, history, etc.).

We offer
DRC will offer the successful applicant a 6 months contract, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work as soon as possible and be willing and able to work in Erbil, Iraq and travel all over KRI (including Dohuk and Kirkuk). Candidates available to start immediately will be given a priority in the selection.
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for Expatriates; please refer to www.drc.dkunder Vacancies. This position will be placed at A20 and amount of field allowance will be determined based on experience and qualifications of selected candidate. In addition to the field allowance DRC will provide shared accommodation in country, full insurance package and will cover flights. R&R cycle is every 12 weeks.
