Working to the Regional Overseas Security Manager (ROSM), the Post Security Manager (PSM) is responsible for the day to day security of the British Embassy in Beijing. They will act as the main liaison point between the Embassy security management team and the ISS (Facilities Management) team, provide a first point of
management for all Security matters for the individual sections within the Embassy sites, and provide, implement, and monitor solutions.

In addition, this role involves considerable administrative needs and there is an important liaison role: at times acting as the interface between a wide range of stakeholders and staff, UK-based and locally-engaged, other security personnel, and members of the public. The role calls for a confident, articulate person who can project a
presence, but also someone who can display empathy and calmness under pressure. Credibility will be important.

Appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to Overseas Security Clearance. Due to the security clearance level required for this position, this vacancy is open only to the following:
Nationals from the UK who have spent at least two (2) years out of the last five (5) years in the UK
Nationals from the UK who have Diplomatic status in China ('W' visa holder).
Other nationals from EU countries, the USA, Canada, New Zealand, or Australia providing they have Diplomatic status in China ('W' visa holder).

Position responsibilities are as follows:
Security Management: Responsible to the ROSM in the day to day security management of the ISS guard force
and the mission in accordance with FCO Guidance.
Project management: Act as the point of contact for any local works, improvements, or other projects under the guidance and instruction of the ROSM/ Corporate Services, ensuring appropriate security measures are implemented for Embassy project works.
Event security management: Work across various Embassy departments to ensure the smooth security and safety management of Embassy events at HMA's residence, on the Embassy compound, and other mission offices.
Personnel Security management: Management of staff logs for arrivals and departures and overseeing Beijing Clearance Hub and Events mail boxes.
Fire safety management: Assist the Fire Safety Manager (FSM) with administrative duties for all aspects of Fire Safety management in the Embassy, Kerry Centre offices, and Residence.
Security Education and Training: Working to the ROSM and the PSO, responsible for the provision of security training, instructions, supervision, and information for local staff (including ISS) and UK-based staff in the Embassy OFFICIAL areas, and alerting the ROSM or PSO of addition briefings.
Liaison: Representing the Security Team at meetings and consultation with local security contacts and exchanging information.
Crisis/ Disaster Management: Serve as a member of the Security & Safety (S&S) Team. Be familiar with S&S Team responsibilities within the Crisis Management Plan, and take part in crisis exercises and attend team leaders' workshops/ meetings when necessary. Ensure the Emergency Telephone Cascade and China Network telephone lists are maintained.
Developing the role: Working to Post Health & Safety Coordinator in a Health and Safety capacity to ensure a safe and secure working environment for staff, visitors, contractors, and especially vulnerable persons.
Other tasks as required by the ROSM and PSO.

Essential qualifications and experience

Working in a demanding environmentm with an ability to solve fast-moving problems.
Interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate well.
A self-starter with the ability to work on their own.
Able to work flexibly to meet ever changing needs and understand that working hours are less flexible in this role.
Fluent in English, both written and spoken, and able to demonstrate good drafting skills.
Proficient in Windows OS, Microsoft Office, and internet-based applications.
Desirable qualifications and experience

Former military/ police or previous security experience.
Health and safety experience/ qualification.
