Norwegian People’s Aid has more than 12000 members in Norway and 2400 staff worldwide. We work in 39 countries around the world, and in 2015 we will have an expected turnover of 920 MNOK.

Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) has been involved in mine action operations since 1992 and is one of the leading humanitarian demining organizations worldwide. Together with national authorities and other stakeholders we are working to resolve problems faced by local communities caused by landmines and other explosive remnants of war. Currently NPA has 22 Humanitarian Disarmament (HD) Programmes ongoing in South East Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia and South East Asia and Latin America.

This position vacancy for 6 searchers.

General Responsibilities

The Operator/searcher must:
Accept responsibility for their safety and act in a disciplined way at all times at a Task site;
Accept responsibility for the safety of others around him/her;
Ensure that their tools and equipment are clean and in working order and all items are present,
Work to procedures as documented in these SOPs;
Work hard to achieve Team’s efficiency, expediently, safely and without objections;
Remove mobile phones and all metal and jewellery before deployment in their working lane;
Use the correct marking system as documented in the NPA SOP HD Iraq,
Follow the instructions of the Team Leader, expediently, safely and without objections
Report all safety concerns immediately to their Team Leader;
Ensure that their PPE is worn correctly, is in good condition and is regularly cleaned and checked for faults,
Attend and pass all training requirements as directed by the TFM/OM and
Work as an integrated part of the BAC/EOD NPA teams and assist the team where possible in the daily work.

Operator/searcher duties include:
All work associated with the establishment and maintenance of safe areas at a Task site;
All work associated with the marking and closure of the Task site;
All work associated with the securing of the area for the destruction of clusters, mines and ERW;
Conduct BAC Clearance in accordance with BAC/EOD NPA SOP; as directed by team leader;
All duties associated with the maintenance of demining equipment;
Team billeting duties as directed by the Team Leader, Task Supervisor, or Technical Field Manager; and
At all times behaving in a manner that promotes pride in the Team and credit to their Team.
The searcher/deminer is a part of the team performing demining operations. The searcher/deminer is deployed in a specified area or lane, and is responsible for the clearance and marking in accordance with the NPA (SOP)

Qualifications:
· National staff only.
· Have a driving license.
· This position is based in Basra
· Related field experience
· Experience in working with NGOs
· Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with analytic approach
· Strong interpersonal, management and leadership skills
