War Child programme in DRC and Burundi
War Child is working in the region through partners, and is currently implementing psychosocial, child protection and education programmes through a community based and child rights approach. Its use of creative methods across all the activities significantly contribute to the psychosocial wellbeing of children and young people who have suffered from conflict, civil war and displacement for a long time. War Child is one of the few international Child Protection NGOs with a strong presence in the war torn region. War Child is committed to add value to the development of a sustainable programme which suits the local needs and works closely with Burundian and Congolese local organizations and relevant government institutions.
Your challenge
You play a key role in the operationalization of security and safety arrangements across the DR Congo and Burundi missions. With the upcoming elections in DR Congo and the critical political situation in Burundi security management will be more challenging. In close collaboration with War Child’s Country Management Teams, you ensure that all security and safety plans and policies are up-to-date and thoroughly implemented, monitoring and reporting systems are in place and staff are properly trained. Additionally, you provide guidance on risk management. You are based mainly at the War Child’s country office in Bukavu (DR Congo), with regular travels to Burundi and to different field locations in both countries. You report to the Country Directors.
Profile
• Minimum 5 years of experience in managing/ advising on security and safety matters with (I)NGOs, International Organizations or UN agencies in emergency response settings;
• Fluent in French and English (verbal and written);
• Advanced Training certificate in first aid, security, emergency response, logistics and/ or related field;
• Hands-on knowledge of security and safety gadgets and equipment (use and maintenance);
• Proven understanding of humanitarian and human rights principles and frameworks;
• Strong analytical skills and sound judgment, with the ability to meaningfully synthesize diverse and complex information from a wide range of sources and to develop clear and actionable recommendations based on that information;
• Strong skills in documentation and filing, written reporting, and the elaboration of work-related documents (SOPs, strategies etc.)
• Ability to set up or adapt viable security systems and frameworks in a context of unpredictable or rapidly evolving threats;
• Track record in successfully building the capacity of multi-disciplinary teams in multi-cultural settings;
• Ability and willingness to travel to remote field sites.

Job Location:
1. Bukavu, South Kivu, DR Congo with frequent travels to the territories of Fizi, Kalehe, Walungu, Goma and in future to new intervention zones (potentially Shabunda, Ituri the Grand North of North Kivu and the death triangle in North Katanga,)
Bujumbura, Burundi, with frequent travels to Bubanza, Cibitoke, Bururi and Bujumbura rural provinces
Contract: 1 year (extendable)
