Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

The main purpose of the job is to lead DSO’s engagement with Thailand, Cambodia and Singapore by identifying, planning and delivering campaigns to support UK defence and security companies to win business in the three countries, in line with political engagement policies and export controls.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Proactively build and sustain a network of senior contacts in the Thai military, Thai police, and the security divisions of major companies, drawing on occasional support from the Ambassador, the Defence Attaché, and senior Ministerial and official visitors, in order to identify business opportunities for UK companies. Represent HMG at official military and police events.
Proactively build and sustain a network of senior military, police and security contacts in Cambodia and Singapore by visiting regularly, directing local staff, and drawing on occasional top management support, in order to identify business opportunities for UK companies.
Proactively build and sustain a network of senior contacts in UK defence and security companies in Thailand, the S-E Asia region, and the UK HQs. Systematically keep up to date with the latest defence and security technologies and the long-term commercial strategies of the major UK companies. Actively brief UK companies on UK export controls and relevant political engagement policies.

Design and lead the in-country delivery of HMG campaigns to support UK companies to secure business opportunities in Thailand, Cambodia, and Singapore. Advising London on export control policy and defence equipment co-operation strategy in each country.
Oversee the production of high quality, bespoke research and support to UK companies seeking to enter the market, and manage projects through UKTI's online market research system and CRM system;
Ensure high quality performance from the A2L trade assistant by providing clear tasking, strategic guidance on how to go about tasks, and opportunities for relevant personal development;
Support the Embassy, where required, on wider activities, such as crisis preparedness, teambuilding, and public diplomacy events to enhance UK reputation.
Essential qualifications and experience


Proven excellent networking, communication and people skills
A self-starter, able to work independently and on their own initiative to deliver high quality work to tight deadlines.
An excellent level of written and spoken English
Proficiency in IT, especially MS Office (specifically Excel and Power Point) and Outlook.
A relevant bachelor’s degree and/or relevant work experience. Previous knowledge of defence and security industry

The British Embassy and UKTI offer a comprehensive learning and development package. There will be a requirement to travel to UK and/or within ASEAN in support of UKTI events or for learning and development purposes. Other Learning and Development opportunities will also be made available to support the successful candidate. The job is linked to the British Embassy’s Local Staff C5 grade with a salary of 177, 071 Thai Baht per month. For those not liable to tax, the salary will be abated.

Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment and security checks. Staff who are locally recruited by the British Embassy are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local employment law.
