Purpose Summary
The purpose of this position is to conduct, facilitate and deliver high quality training and to support the Deputy Director – Head of Training Unit (hereafter referred to as line manager) in the evolution of current courses and the development of future training provision.
Co-facilitate training courses, deliver classroom inputs and manage live practical scenarios.
Support the line manager in course design and development.
Support the line manager in monitoring & evaluation of training delivery and impact


Hierarchy
Reports to the Deputy Director – Head of Training Unit (Line Manager).

Key responsibilities:
Training Facilitation
Personally deliver classroom inputs and facilitate dynamic and interesting training courses as directed by the line manager, to include:
  • Hostile Environment Individual Safety Training (HEIST)
  • Country Director Course
  • Crisis Management Training
  • Security Focal Point Training
  • Other relevant training as directed
Organize training logistics, prepare training schedules, be responsible for advertising and advance planning & preparation for courses, including the administrative workload.
Promote the development of new training courses with the line manager utilizing adult learning methodologies.
It is expected that the Training Officer will be able to take full charge of the planning, preparation and facilitation of some of the training delivery when requested by the line manager.

Monitor course feedback systems.
In conjunction with the line manager further develop course appraisal and feedback systems.
Provide logistic support.
Responsible for the production of training presentations, course programs, facilitator notes, lesson plans and aids as directed by the line manager.

Other responsibilities.
Work closely with organization colleagues in the administration of procurement issues, finance and budget control, travel and accommodation booking for missions to the field.
Any other reasonable duty as requested by line management.

Posting details:
This position is based in Hargeisa (approx. 60%) with travel to key locations across other locations in Somalia/Somaliland (approx. 30%) and occasional visits to Kenya (approx. 10%).
Somalia is a hostile environment and the selected candidate must adhere to all security precautions and contribute to the security of the team.
S/he must be able to exercise a large degree of common sense and personal discipline.
The position requires the holder to be able to undertake tasking at short notice with due regard to the security environment.
The position requires the holder to be able to work efficiently unsupervised. The selected candidate must be able to plan and manage their own time effectively which requires a high degree of flexibility with respect to working hours.
The holder must exercise a strong work ethic and take responsibility for his/her own actions.
The post holder must have an appropriate passport to enable travel across all regions of Somaliland and Somalia and into Kenya when required by organizationSomalia senior management team.

Qualifications and experience.
Qualifications (preferred):
Degree in Education or Post Graduate Diploma in Education.
Security/safety training course attendance.
Evidence of knowledge and skills based training delivery to junior staff and senior management.
First Aid qualification – Advanced First Responder trainer highly desirable.

Work Experience:
Minimum four years of experience as trainer/teacher of adults is a must.
Somalia/Somaliland experience is a must.
Previous experience as trainer in security/safety is an advantage.
Two years of experience with an NGO in a position dealing with safety/security responsibilities (such as Security Focal Point) is a strong advantage.

Skills and competences

Mandatory Skills required:
Thorough understanding of the contextual security environment for Somaliland, Puntland and South Central Somalia
Proven presentation/facilitator skills using adult learning methodologies.
Good administration, logistics and budget capacity.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet and general IT use.
English (working language): fluent with excellent writing capacities.
Somali: fluent both spoken and written.

Additional requirements
Being in possession of a valid passport is a must (See above for regional travel and to Kenya)
User knowledge of GPS, Thuraya satellite phone and VHF communications is an advantage.
Being in possession of a valid driving licence is an advantage.
