Senior Civil Military Coordinator/Adviser-P4/P5 Middle East

CANADEM is seeking individuals (Canadian citizens or permanent residents) with previous relevant experience (preferably in military) who are available for an immediate deployment to Jordan as a seconded expert with OCHA for a 3 months contract.

OCHA Jordan requests the support of a senior civil military coordinator to lay the foundations for effective civil military coordination between UNHCR and other operational partners and the Jordanian authorities. There is a pressing need to ensure effective coordination and communication in order to ensure the appropriate security measures are in place to ensure a safe and enabling environment to deliver life-saving humanitarian assistance in a harsh and inhospitable environment.

Main Tasks and Duties:
• Serve as a liaison with the Jordanian border authorities and the agencies working at the berm.

• Setup ail effective civil military coordination system at the berm involving all partners
• Organize and coordinate weekly meetings with all humanitarian actors and Jordan Armed Forces in Ruwasheid
• Serve as Secretariat for all meetings related to the civil military coordination at the berm
• Organize and support senior Jordanian civil military staff on all matters related to the berm
• Directly work on a daily basis with the JAF Northeast Commander at the berm
• In coordination with JAC/Border Guards and humanitarian agencies, support the compilation of information and statistics of delivery of humanitarian aid on a weekly basis
• Submit regular updates to the RC/HC and to UN OCHA on the humanitarian situation at the berm and highlight relevant issues that require immediate action by the RC/HC.

Specific required skills (languages, experience, etc)
• Prior experience working with the military highly desirable,
• Experience with OCHA field humanitarian coordination is mandatory
• Experience in dealing with armed actors in complex emergencies is required
• Experience in working with UN agencies
• Experience in coordination and diplomacy around multiple stakeholders with different  interests
• Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable
