Security Manager , Nigeria

The purpose of this role is to supervise the security team (supported by Security Advisor) and become the first point of contact for security matters in the post. The role is expected to oversee and manage protective security systems, equipment and procedures and to provide insights around security issues, risks and opportunities for improvement. The Security Manager will build close working relationships with eHA partners, and should be a strong team player, with negotiating and influencing skills as well as being able to maintain a practical balance between the needs of the job and the security environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.
The successful candidate will be responsible person for all security matters including security liaison with local authorities, police, security companies, airport authorities and other pertinent stakeholders.
The SS will ensure that security measures, including vehicle and visitor access controls at the Kano office are in line with relevant standards. Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and other emergency plans will need to be regularly reviewed and emergency drills practiced and assessed.
The SS will undertake continuous risk analysis of all areas of the Kano operation, as well as review and report on all threat to the Security Advisor. Ensuring any item of security significance will be promptly addressed to the Security Advisor or the Country Director or his/her representative.
The SS will work with the Security Advisor to ensure staff are regularly up-dated on security issues and provided with policy advice, guidance and support on all aspects of security. The SS will ensure all staff adopt good security practices and will investigate record and report all security incidents and security breaches.
The SS will maintain a staff tracking sheet for official Kano staff movements after this has been cleared by project managers, operations and the Security Advisor.
Maintaining lists of approved hotels, hospitals, domestic airlines, taxi services
Providing support during any critical incident
Maintaining an occurrences database
Conducting routine communications checks by running drills
Monitoring guard performance and liaising with security contractors
Assisting in Delivering security-related training
Preparing reports for management on security-related issues
Making effective decisions
Leading and communicating
Managing a quality service
Building capacity for all

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to successfully perform this job.

Education/ExperienceBachelor’s Degree in Security Studies, Security and Risk Management, Criminal Justice or any related field of study
A minimum of five years of recent experience in a similar role or with a security agency or company
The successful candidate will have experience in the Nigerian Armed Forces, Police, Intelligence or other government security department. Previous experience in operating as a Safety and Security Manager for government or large international companies in conflict areas would be a distinct advantage.
The post holder will be required to work effectively under pressure, be resilient and able to work in a busy, challenging and rapidly changing and insecure environment. There may be times when unsocial Office hours will be required i.e. evening / weekends, often under time pressure.
There may be occasional need to travel to locations outside Kano metropolis including throughout Northern Nigeria.
Knowledge of security services including principles, theories and practices of security
Knowledge of International, Federal and Private Enterprise developments in the area of security.
Knowledge of general office equipment, personal computers and related security software and equipment
Excellent communication skills
Ability to draw data from multiple sources and create spreadsheets, charts,

Computer Skills
Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Windows Microsoft Publisher, and Microsoft Office Suite. Graphic designs software.
Intermediate proficiency working with specialized software utilized in program.

Language Ability
English is the spoken and written language. Hausa is a plus.
Ability to read, analyse, proof and edit documents, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or government regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees and the general public.
