Responsibilities and Duties
Must maintain expert knowledge of relative duties prescribed under the range Operations Master Gunner position.
Supervises Range Operations Master Gunners in range development duties and overall range layout ensuring the customer’s requirements are met and ranges are IAW DA Pam 385-63.
Attends all pertinent briefings, meetings, and other associated gatherings as required for mission support.
Tracks all work orders initiated and associated with range usage.
Tracks all assigned project status’s relative to Udari ranges.
Interfaces with the PWD designated POC for all relative ongoing and future range maintenance issues.
Provides briefings and or orientations as required to government officials, contractors, end users, and all others as directed.
Provides subject matter expertise/recommendations to all agencies associated with range safety, range maintenance, range support and BTSO.
Reviews Range Technicians daily inspection reports and responds to deficiencies in a timely manner.
Must maintain updated and expert subject matter knowledge relative to all direct fire weapon platforms, stabilized or non-stabilized gunnery.
Assign and supervise, Range Operations Master Gunners to specified projects, ongoing tasks, future tasks, and all other designated assignments as directed.
Reports to Range Operations and Plans section manager.
Serves as the Subject Matter Expert for all direct fire weapons platforms within individual area of expertise.
Conducts review of all Surface Area Danger Zones prior to scheduled unit’s live fire range utilization, ensures SADD’s are in compliance with DA Pam 385-63, provides subject matter expertise to using unit’s as required or directed.
Conducts SDAD map surveys as well as on site surveys relative to any and all SDAD’s usage within the Udari range complex.
Assist’s in the upgrades of existing ranges within the Udari footprint, to include conduct site surveys, construction diagrams, materials requirements, and future maintenance requirements of such facilities.
Ensures the Range Operations reference library is continually updated with the most current relevant publications.
Assists with any future range planning, development, and construction. Imparts subject matter expertise during all phases thereof where relevant.
Supervises any and all work parties within the Udari footprint as directed or required, specifically when subject matter expertise is required.
Provides relative Master Gunner support to using unit’s when requested or otherwise required.
Provides shot sheets for all ranges with fixed electromechanical target pits as required per specified ranges, specifically for line of site mitigation, SADD compliance, and overall safety..
Assists with planning and developing all non-standard surface danger zone diagrams, for all non-standard range requests, in order to provide the necessary oversight concerning safety to personnel and equipment.

MINIMUM TANGIBLE QUALIFICATIONS:
14-19 years of related experience.
U.S. Army Advanced NCO Course (ANCOC) or other service equivalents with knowledge of military live-fire operations and procedures are preferred.
U.S. Army Master Gunner graduate.
Requires fifteen to twenty years military experience, Combat Arms Branch preferred.
Requires ten to twelve years supervisory experience.
DA Approved Master Gunner graduate required.
Experience working with coalition units, as well as use of interpreters, preferred.
Must be proficient with Range Safety Danger Area Diagrams (SDAD) to ensure safe range operations.
Proficient in Microsoft Office software programs.
Must be able to work in extreme heat for an extended period of time.
48 hour work week.
Must be able to function with an advanced level of English, verbal and written, language skills through demonstrated proficiency testing.
Willing to work in an indoor and outdoor environment with adverse and harsh weather conditions (i.e. hot, dry, dusty, desert environment with average temperatures of 30 degrees in the winter months and 130 degrees in the summer months).
Knowledge of safety, management practices, and procedures involving equipment is required.
Must be proficient in developing, assessing and applying Surface Danger Area Diagrams (SDAD) for all weapon systems in regards to air/ground operations IAW DA Pam 385-63 and Host Nation Regulations.
Knowledgeable of all air and ground requirements as it pertains to live-fire events both stationary and moving.
Ability to exercise good judgment and insight, to understand the overall effect of decisions, is required.
Ability to prioritize responsibilities in order to handle a demanding workload is required.
Ability to demonstrate leadership and management skills, in a professional demeanor, is required.
Advanced proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook applications, is required.
