As our flexible, approachable and conscientious Safety and Security Adviser you'll help us realise our ambition of becoming the world’s leading humanitarian organisation for children as you shrewdly promote a safety and security agenda, ensuring staff are given the best training, support and information – reducing their risk exposure whilst maximising the impact for children.

Our Humanitarian department integrates emergency and development work, through our country programmes. It increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.
As Safety and Security Adviser you'll ensure that the management of travel, deployments and programme delivery operates strictly in accordance with our duty of care obligations and safety and security standards. You will identify risks, lead on the development and delivery of relevant inductions and briefings, share updates with key internal stakeholders and contribute to the health and wellbeing of staff who travel internationally through promotion of access to relevant services. You will also:
Manage the Safety and Security budget.
Be the Safety and Security interface between Save the Children UK and Save the Children International.
Lead on providing technical advice to staff and proposal writers.
Monitor security bulletins, providing alerts on threats, and identifying emerging trends.
Line manage the Safety and Security Officer, who will support with day-to-day, operational and strategic work.
Represent SCUK on the European Interagency Security Forum (EISF).
To be successful, you'll be a highly efficient and compassionate self-starter, a specialist in NGO safety and security management (with experience in both HQ and field settings) who enjoys working in challenging overseas contexts, where applicable. Impressive communication skills are a must, as is a willingness to support and work across a range of teams. Programmes-focused and compliance-conscious, you will also have:
A degree in a related discipline – such as International Development, International Relations etc.
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including the ability to facilitate the engagement and compliance of colleagues with policies and procedures.
Experience supporting training initiatives and encouraging learning.
Good basic project management skills, including the ability to plan, think strategically and work within budget.
Sound computer literacy.
