Summary of the position

The SAFE Initiative applies an integrated approach with human-centric trainings to media practitioners world-wide.

The Journalist Safety Trainer (JST), under the supervision of the Center Manager will be contracted on full time basis. He/she will be responsible for the design, preparation and delivery of holistic safety training and workshops for media practitioners in East Africa.

The position is based in Nairobi and will require travel.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Journalist Safety Trainer will;
In coordination with the Center Manager and Physical Safety Trainer, prepare regionally appropriate trainings and workshop curriculum for East African media practitioners.
Design, develop, review and contextualize lessons in physical safety and risk management to suit program participants and ensure integrated approach in training materials.
Deliver contextualized lessons in physical safety and risk management that reflect the integrated safety framework.
Develop integrated standard operating procedures and individual risk mitigation plans at trainings as required.
Provide risk-reducing security strategies to high-risk journalists.
Provide mentoring and support to partner organizations, media outlets and CSOs.

Skills and Qualifications
Experience in conducting trainings and adult learning preferred.
Media or journalism professionals preferred.
Familiarity with the East African landscape.
Excellent communication and people skills.
