Associate Director for Security

Primary Purpose:


The position will support the Church World Service domestic and international operations and will be based out of the CWS Headquarters in New York City. The Associate Director for Security will serve as the organization’s internal subject matter expert for security and safety. This individual will work to promote awareness in the workplace around security and safety and will collaborate with each of the local offices, their staff and clients, to ensure their security and safety requirements are met.

Essential Duties:
Serve as subject matter expert for the organization on all matters related to security.
Advise CWS senior management about the security needs and issues as they relate to the organization.
Plan, direct, and coordinate security activities to safeguard agency employees, assets, guests, or others at CWS office locations.
Develop internal policies, procedures, and plans for security and safety programs for the organization as well as for office locations and their respective operations.
Conduct security awareness trainings with staff members in each office location, as requested by the IRP+ Executive Director.
Conduct office and program risk assessments and make recommendations for strengthening security measures at office facilities and procedures for employees
In coordination with the IRP+ Executive Director and Senior Director of Operations, create and effectively manage security budget.
Liaise with the Nairobi-based Security Manager and CWS staff in other locations.
In the US, work with local Office Directors and liaise with local police and fire departments in each city as well as with the Joint Terrorism Task Force and other similar agencies to ensure all necessary preparedness measures are developed and response capabilities understood.
Work with the Office Directors to develop security awareness campaigns for the office staff in each location.
Serve as coordinating focal point for incident/crisis management between the head office and the field offices.
Join industry groups or associations to keep up with industry best practices and incorporate as relevant to CWS.
Identify, investigate, and report all security incidents.
Serve as a member of the IRP+ Leadership Team.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum 5-8 years of military, law enforcement, or commercial security management experience.
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing, lead presentations, training courses, and effective meetings.
Demonstrated experience developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for security program highly desirable.
Detail oriented with ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Demonstrated integrity, independent thinking, judgment, and respect for others.
Ability to solve complex technical, managerial or operational problems and evaluate options based on relevant information, resources, well-rounded experience, and knowledge.
Strong administrative skills, word processing and data collection abilities, and attention to detail.
Ability to follow standard practices and procedures, receive general instruction and supervision on work progress, and make significant contribution to end results.
Previous experience working with non-profit, NGOs, or other development organizations desirable.
Security and safety industry certification desirable.
Must be willing to travel to CWS offices internationally and domestically.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
