Security Coordinator

Position Summary
IWPR is seeking to hire a Security Coordinator for an initial six-month term; we hope to extend this to a permanent position subject to long-term funding.

Based in the London office, the Security Coordinator will maintain contact with staff in all field offices and develop and implement security plans for all IWPR’s programmes.

The successful candidate will have a background in security/protection management, and will ideally have worked previously for an NGO. S/he will be able to travel to IWPR’s field offices to brief and train our staff in safety and security protocols, and will act an emergency point of contact for all staff.


Duties & Responsibilities
Provide efficient safety and security support to all IWPR’s programmes, working to protect the safety and security of all IWPR staff;
Provide and oversee a wardenship programme for a select number of staff working in areas of high and variable risk, tracking staff movements, providing pre-travel advice, establishing emergency protocols;
Develop and implement security policies and standard operating procedures for IWPR;
Develop and maintain contingency and security plans for each country of operation, eliciting contributions from field teams;
Implement safety and security plans for each country of operation, and in particular put in place all necessary systems and equipment (communication equipment, vehicles, stocks etc.);
Train staff in IWPR’s security policies;
Conduct regular safety and security briefings for staff;
Provide regular updates and reports to IWPR’s Executive Management Team on the safety and security situation in field offices;
Provide timely and accurate security advice to IWPR management and disseminate crucial security information to all staff;
Conduct regular threat and risk assessments, and identify and implement appropriate risk-mitigation measures for all operational areas;
Undertake regular and ad hoc security assessment missions as necessary, in order to gather information and to analyse the overall security situation in existing and potential areas of intervention;
Maintain accurate records of all staff travel, including current whereabouts at all times and emergency contact information;
Act as the first point of contact in any security emergency, alerting IWPR staff and emergency response services as required;
Provide crisis management support to the IWPR senior management, including incident response, reporting and analysis;
Working with IWPR’s Resources Department, arrange insurance cover for all travelling staff;
Assign staff to deputise in absence.


Requirements
Education/background in security/protection management;
Relevant experience of working in a conflict, post-conflict or crisis environment;
Experience of international NGOs;
Work experience/knowledge of Middle East & North Africa (desirable);
Established contacts and networks in the security sector (desirable);
Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to establish effective working relations at all levels;
Very strong command of English (additional languages, especially Arabic, would be a plus);
Ability to deal with crisis situations in a professional manner;
Ability to network and gather information relevant to managing security;
Knowledge and working experience of security issues in fragile countries;
Demonstrated knowledge of comprehensive planning for, and day-to-day management of, safety and security operations;
Ability to draft and implement safety and security protocols in high-risk environments;
Demonstrated ability to assess and make informed recommendations on physical security upgrades.
Exceptional skills in forecasting future safety and security needs and applying best practice to address these needs.
Excellent communication and IT skills;
Proven ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines;
Self starter, able to work with minimal supervision;
Willingness to be available outside regular office hours;
Good team player;
Strong sense of responsibility;
Ability to travel 25 per cent of time.
