Position Summary
Ambatovy is a joint venture between Sherritt, Sumitomo, Korea Resources and SNC-Lavalin. Sherritt is the operator of the facilities. This facility in Madagascar is the largest finished nickel and finished cobalt operation from lateritic ore in the world.
We are currently searching for a Security Manager who will lead a large team of employees and contractors, proposing and overseeing preventive and mitigation efforts, often in conjunction with other Ambatovy Departments. The incumbent will provide a fully integrated, cross functional, approach to security management. In addition, the Manager works with government security forces at ministerial and national level and various national and international organisations to provide a level of safeguard to Ambatovy’s people, assets, operations and reputation that is consistent with national and international law and international standards and best practices.
The position ask for an experienced person who will be able to:
Lead and manage a large security department located in Toamasina, Moramanga and Antananarivo.
Develop Security Policy and ensure the proper implementation thereof, through a risk based, Security Management System which includes Security Plans, Procedures and Programs for all facilities and operations.
Ensure proper training of security staff and ensure there are succession plans in place for national security staff members.
Establish and develop proper security KPIs and report regularly.
Develop and implement a Crisis Management Plans which include (but are not limited to) Industrial Accidents, Civil Unrest, Evacuations and Kidnapping. Organizes drills/training for senior management.
Organise and direct internal investigations into significant breaches of Ambatovy policies and liaise with Government Security Forces and the Judiciary when National Laws are broken.
Develop, investigate and maintain technical security systems including access control, CCTV, intruder detection, vehicle and asset tracking systems.
Develop and maintain effective local, national and international networks with relevant security stakeholders.
Lead and participate in all strategic Government Security initiatives.
Develop and implement Voluntary Principles with regard to Security and Human Rights programs.
Be the Ambatovy lead representative to the Regional Industrial Risks Management Committee working with National and International stakeholders to build the Committee’s institutional capability and capacity.
The Requirements
To be successful the incumbent will need the following:
Be a strategic thinker with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make calculated decisions to influence successful outcomes in emergency and crisis situations.
Be the Security Advisor to Ambatovy Senior Management.
Be the Crisis Coordinator and be the Crisis Management Team Member
Provide Security Reporting to Ambatovy Executive Committee (ExCo) and Sherritt Board.
Be a Security Advisory Council; Steering Committee Member. (US Govt. led body)
Contract holder for all third party security services.
Experience and background:
Fully Bilingual: English and French
Bachelor or higher degree or security qualification at University Level.
Senior Manager / Director level experience with a strong Risk Management and Security background.
Solid understanding of the full range of security related matters and issues in developing countries.
Proven record of working independently or leading and motivating a large and complex multinational / multicultural group of people, whilst inspiring teams to achieve significant results, often beyond their expectations.
