This role is based at our Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation, located approximately 120km north of Vientiane and is offered on an attractive drive in, drive out roster. Transport to and from site is provided by the company, with travel in company time. Our modern mine camp provides a range of Western and Asian food, along with sport and recreational facilities, including football pitch, gym, pool tables and wet mess.
Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation is a conventional open pit mine producing approximately 70,000 tonnes of copper concentrate annually. The process plant, upgraded to a design capacity of 19 million tonnes per annum, comprises a SAG mill and two ball mill grinding circuits, each rated at 13 mega watts, with copper and precious metal recovery by flotation.
Reporting to the Loss Prevention Manager, you will manage a team of approximately 150 security staff responsible for the security of employees and company property across our Phu Kham site. This comprises a range of day to day activities including access control, general security monitoring and response to security breaches. You will also work closely with the Loss Prevention Investigations Superintendent and their team to initiate and close out investigations.
Your outstanding leadership and coaching skills will be critical to the ongoing development and performance of the relatively inexperienced, but very keen and willing, local Lao workforce. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a military or police background with mining security experience to truly make a difference at a dynamic operation.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Manage the Loss Prevention functions and provide effective leadership to staff within the department
Review and improve security/loss prevention procedures and processes across all elements of physical and property security at the mine sie
Initiate and assist with investigations into security related incidents
Whilst on site, provide a 24/7 point of contact for security emergencies
Maintain close working relationships with the Lao People’s Army (LPA) and local police
Respond, in a leadership capacity, to emergency situations as required
Monitor and report breaches of safety
Desired Skills and Experience
Extensive operational Police/Military/Security experience, including recent experience in a similar role within a mining operation
Solid knowledge and application of physical security principles
Proven experience leading investigations
Previous expatriate experience in a developing country is essential
Highly effective leadership skills
Excellent written and verbal communication
Unquestionable integrity and commitment to safety
