Essential Qualifications
Language:
Working level proficiency in English (written and oral) and Spanish (written and oral) is required.

Education:
The candidate must have a university degree (any stream).
OR An acceptable combination of security-related experience and/or training.

Experience:
Demonstrated experience in an office environment of 5 years dealing with Guatemalan culture and internal and external clients.

Knowledge:
Operational knowledge and experience of computer applications in a Windows environment, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point) and Internet Explorer.
Local customs and culture to be able to provide guidance on how to conduct business in Guatemala.

Abilities:
Ability to communicate in English and Spanish effectively (orally and in writing).
Ability to convey information accurately.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Ability to learn security procedures and policies.
Ability to analyze problems and propose viable courses of action.

Asset Qualifications
Fluency in one or both official languages (English and French).
Previous experience working with diplomatic missions or international organizations.
Security background and/or specialized education compatible with Canadian ethics.
Specialized education and/or experience in security-related threat and risk assessment.

Operational Requirements
Normal hours are from 07:30 a.m. to 16:30 p.m. (with 1-hour lunch break) Monday through Thursday and 07:30 a.m. to 13:00 p.m. Friday (without a lunch break), but they may vary due to operational requirements.
Ability and willingness to receive telephone calls and report to work within short notice.
Ability and willingness to work overtime.
Unassisted physical mobility and ability to occasionally lift up to 23 Kg.

Conditions of Employment
Obtain and maintain a reliability security clearance.
Non Guatemalan Citizens must have documentation to work legally in Guatemala.
Must have and maintain a valid Guatemalan driver’s license (type “B”) during the entire employment period.
Appointment is conditional upon passing a medical examination.
Every employee is subject to a twelve-month probationary period from initial appointment.

Job description
Summary

Under the direction of the Mission Security Officer (MSO), Security Program Manager (SPM) or Military Police Security Specialist (MPSS), provides security support for Government of Canada staff and Canada-Based Staff (CBS) dependents; recommends, initiates and assists in the delivery of the Security Program, including conducting training and daily supervision of security personnel at Chancery, Official Residence, and Staff Quarters; conducts research and contributes to reports on security issues affecting personnel and facilities in area of responsibility and establishes a rapport with a wide network of contacts relevant to the Security Section; provides support in security-related contracts, procurement and payments and assists in the preparation of the annual estimates and budget input for operation and maintenance requirements; provides translation and interpretation services between the local language and one of the official languages of Canada; assists in the preparation and delivery of mission emergency preparedness; and performs other duties as assigned.

Incumbent must possess a valid Guatemalan driver’s license (type B) as some of the duties may require driving an official vehicle within country.
