Salary: *Ordinarily Resident (OR): OMR 7,315 p.a. (Starting salary)
**Not-Ordinarily Resident (NOR): USD 32,498 p.a. (Starting salary)

The U.S. Embassy in Muscat is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Close Protection Officer in the Regional Security Office (RSO).

Basic Function Of Position:  
Close Protection Unit (CPU) Officers are responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for the Ambassador to conduct foreign policy. Officers are responsible for protecting the Ambassador from physical harm and embarrassment.

Qualifications Required:  
NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
Education: Completion of secondary school.
Education: To qualify at the FSN-5 level, the candidate must hold a:

Secondary School Diploma, plus 2 years of experience as noted below or
No Secondary School Diploma and 5 years of experience as noted below.
Experience: Two years of military, law enforcement or security experience is required.
Language Proficiency: Level II (basic knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing of English and level IV (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing of Arabic are required. (A test will be administered).
Knowledge: Maintain a working knowledge of close protection protocols and security practices. Maintain a working knowledge of emergency first-aid and CPR techniques. Maintain a working knowledge of Special Protective Equipment (SPE) and defensive driving strategies. Maintain a working knowledge of cultural, political, and geographic issues that may impact the Ambassador's security.
Abilities and Skills: Must qualify with Special Protective Equipment (SPE) in accordance with DS standards. Maintain a satisfactory driving record. Maintain a high-level of physical fitness and meet DS Physical Fitness & Wellness Test standards.

Selection Process:  
When fully qualified, U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.

Additional Selection Criteria: 
1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
3. Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
4. Currently employed U.S. Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
5. Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
