Job Description:

Purpose: Incumbent will be performing dual roles as Air Marshall and Screener responsible for the screening and protection of aircrew and aircraft for flights originating at multiple locations in Afghanistan. This includes safeguarding the aircraft and crew while it is being prepared for takeoffs,
landings, and during flight.
Responsibilities:
• Implement security-screening procedures central to security objectives that serve to protect passengers by preventing any deadly or dangerous objects from being transported onto an aircraft
• Conduct screening of passengers and/or baggage, and/or cargo
• Responsible for supervising personnel performing pre-board security screening of persons and their carry-on and checked baggage
• Assist management with inquiries for information or investigations that may be initiated against a regulated party
• Detect, deter, and defeat hostile acts against air carriers, passengers, and crews.
• Protect passengers and crew against the risk of criminal and terrorist violence.
• Perform investigative work and participate in multi-agency task forces and in land-based investigative assignments to proactively fight terrorism.
• Promote public confidence in the safety of the nation's aviation system as a "quiet professional" in the skies
• Screen personnel at airfields that do not have a dedicated passenger and cargo screener
• Conduct observation, deterrence, and self-defense measures for the aircraft
• In-flight observation of passengers in order to prevent “insider attacks”
• Oversee the screening checkpoint on a day-to-day and as needed basis to include equipment with personnel
• Maintain communication with management regarding issues that might reveal a weakness or vulnerable area of security screening that is discovered in the course of screening duties
• Resolve routine problems independently, but consult with higher-level management when existing guidelines are not available or applicable for complex problems
• Assist in monitoring the flow of passengers through the screening checkpoint to facilitate the orderly and efficient processing of passengers
• Resolve routine situations that may be encountered in the transport of dangerous goods and cargo by air
• Conduct, monitors, and participates in inspections. Inspections may be based on incident response, reports, trend analysis, and information obtained during routine inspection activities.

Key Skills:
• Knowledge of the theories, dynamics, and factors underlying the aviation screening process to enable authoritative and independent handling of screening functions
• Skill sufficient to operate security equipment, such as X-ray machines and hand wands, at screening checkpoints
• Knowledge of one or more of the following areas: law enforcement, aviation security, professional asset/military force protection or corporate security
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals within and external to the agency
• Ability to express ideas and facts in a clear and understandable manner, tailoring communication to the intended audience
• Ability to communicate non-technical information effectively to others
• Knowledge of compliance and enforcement concepts to effectively conduct inspections
• Knowledge of regulations, laws, rules and security pertaining to air transportation of dangerous goods and cargo
• Ability to interpret and apply aviation, security, and hazardous materials regulations to resolve situations
• Skill in communicating effectively in order to convey inspection/investigation findings and recommendations to audiences with a differing viewpoint and goal

Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in Transportation Security Administration, or prior experience as an Air Marshal or Aircraft Security Agent

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Ability to respond quickly and calmly to emergencies and stressful situations exercising proper judgment and decision making skills
• Must possess the ability to work alone
• Must be in good physical condition
• Must possess the ability to provide protection using firearms
• Must be accustomed to frequent travel
• Must be proficient in self-defense and able to respond quickly in tight quarters
• Must possess security clearance
• Must possess the ability to receive arming authorization under current Department of Defense and CENTCOM regulations
• Must possess the ability to adhere to The Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act which makes it a felony for those convicted of crimes of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
• Must pass small arms qualification course
• Must complete Initial Antiterrorism Level 1 Training and
• Must be willing to work in austere locations
• Must possess documentation of individual training covering weapons familiarization/qualification, the Law of Armed Conflict (LOAC), Rules for the Use of Force (RUF), distinction between Rules of Engagement (ROE) applicable to military forces and the RUF that control the use of weapons by DOD civilian personnel and DOD contractor employees
