The Role
Our client is a leading and well-known international professional services company that provides customers across all sectors with advice, consultancy and services related to a range of strategic and operational considerations including (but not limited to) asset management, change management, feasibility studies,
planning, procurement and strategy. Our client is headquartered in the UK but has a strong and impressive track record in the Middle East.

In order to support the ongoing growth of the business in the defense and security sector in the Middle East, our client is seeking to appoint to the position of Managing Director for this sector. In detail, this person’s responsibilities will include:

• Providing leadership and direction regarding the defense and security sector across the Middle East, with a particular focus on Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Kuwait. To design and implement strategy, as well as to enforce adherence to it, with this supporting and enabling the growth, development, sustainability and profitability of our client in this sector. To identify strategic initiatives, new markets and potential new service offerings, developing these as appropriate. To assume financial accountability for this business in the Middle East.

• Creating, maintaining and improving relationships with personnel at the highest levels within current and prospective customers on both the client and supply side. To position our client as the strategic supplier of consultancy and advice, particularly on topics such as military equipment and next generation communications procurement and support programs, government and major private sector security programs and industry-led defense and security programs. To gain a detailed understanding of customers’ operations and strategies, to become their trusted advisor, to match our client’s services to their current and future requirements and to win business.

• Producing and executing capture plans for major opportunities and, acting in the role of bid director as appropriate, identifying and leading strategically important bids.

• Overseeing the strategic and day-to-day running of the business in the Middle East, thus ensuring its profitable and efficient operation, that best-in-class services are delivered and that long-term growth is achieved.

• Assuming overall management responsibility for and providing oversight to the delivery of projects and engagements. To draw in delivery and support personnel and capability from across the business both in region and internationally, leading these people and resources in a matrix environment.

• Assuming responsibility for managing, maintaining and growing a core team of personnel focused on the defense and security sector in the Middle East. To ensure these people are provided with clearly defined and measurable objectives and to ensure they are fully aware of the company's strategy and their place within it. Furthermore, to ensure these personnel have the administrative support, knowledge management, personal development and training they require so as to deliver a world-class employee experience.

• Working with peers and key stakeholders across the business internationally, establishing, maintaining and improving strong working relationships with them and working with them on matters such as establishing appropriate delivery teams, ensuring project controls are in place and adhered to and ensuring that resources are available. Furthermore, to establish, maintain and develop relationships with third parties and suppliers as required.

• Reinforcing best practice and ensuring adherence to company methodologies, bidding and commercial processes, technical governance, stage gate reviews and general conduct. To ensure that the business complies with its legislative and operational commitments in the region, to manage both strategic and tactical risks and to lead it through any crises that may arise.

• Achieving any and all commercial and operational targets set by senior management, such as those regarding business P&L, revenue and profitability, order intake and pipeline volume, quality and probability. To produce and provide forecasting, budgeting and other forms of reporting to senior management as required.

The Managing Director may be based anywhere in the Middle East, although the preference would be for a base in the United Arab Emirates. A significant amount of travel within the Middle East will be required, as will occasional travel further afield. A basic salary of up to US$230,000 is on offer, as are bonus, benefits and allowances (as applicable).

Requirements
The successful applicant will possess a proven track record in a senior general management, regional management, sales or business development position working for a company providing professional services, consultancy or military products or services. This experience will include a focus on the defense and/or security sectors, knowledge of these industries in the Middle East, exceptional client engagement skills, the ability to build relationships at a senior level and will ideally be built upon time serving with a military, defense or national security organization. The successful applicant will also be able to demonstrate excellent commercial understanding, possess excellent communications, organizational, people-management and planning skills, and have a confident yet flexible approach to their work.
