Role Description:
This is a team supervisory role and will be responsible for supervising and developing the team of patrolmen including senior patrolmen, with an Anglo Platinum Operation to ensure that they perform their duties and those employees and assets are protected within the law. Investigation support and emergency protection duties will be part of the activities of this role. Personal risk is a factor in the role due to cash escorts, (if applicable) criminal investigations, VIP escorts and unrest situations. The time frame for measuring the work outputs from this role is normally between 3 months and one year.

Technical work responsibilities:
• Policies and procedures for security systems
• Legal application of investigative techniques
• Administration systems for security

• Investigation support
• Training of junior staff/teams
• Administration of junior staff
• Driving heavy security vehicles (where applicable)
• Safety and risk control
• Surveillance. Supervision
• Information management. VIP protection
• Use and control of Firearms and ammunition according to legislation
• Application of security and communication technology
• CIA control

Core work outputs:
• Effective provision of protection services for Operation
• Good employee relations. Support Protection Services management team

Key Responsibilities:
• Effective provision of protection services for Operation
• Investigate crime and transgressions to standard procedures
• Patrol and inspect all company property within delegated area of responsibility
• Ensure that all unrest procedures are understood and drills attended
• Continuously liaise with the Superintendent on security activities
• Ensure that safety and legal standards are adhered to in performing protection duties
• Ensure that operating standards and procedures are up to date and understood by the team
• Monitor and advise on the settings of monitoring equipment to optimize performance
• Monitor the process regularly to ensure conformance to and understanding of security standards
• Administers security codes used in the facility. Assists in security screening of employees and recruits
• Assist during emergencies and injuries to employees. Control issuing and receiving of all security equipment to team
• Issue, receive and register all equipment in the department including firearms and specialist security equipment
• Ensure that materials, resources and equipment are available and in working

• Good employee Public Relations. Effective two way open communication with employees in team

• Develop a trusting and mutual respect relationship with the roles stakeholders

• Supports employees to work in a safe, productive and legal environment

• Support and participate in the training and development requirements of employees

• Ensure that employees have clear work allocations, plans and instructions

• Communicate effectively with Protection Services Superintendent

• Support the induction of new employees. Support disciplinary and grievance inquiries

• Identify potential conflict situations and minimize the implications

• Control discipline and ensure fair decisions regarding ER policy

• Fairly manage cultural diversity. Encourage and motivate employees to develop and further their education and skills

• Ensure that work is fairly allocated. Ensure competency of employees in team for the work required

• Support Protection Services management team. Communicate effectively with Protection Services Superintendent

• Encourage co-operation and teamwork between team and clients. Support of HR initiatives and participate in meetings and seminars

• Forward complaints and recommendations to Protection Services Manager

Required Abilities:

• Grade 12

• Four years experience in role or similar role normally in Police Force/ SANDF/ Correctional services

• Registered with PSIRA Grade B / Or be a SAPS member

• Literate in English

• First Aid Certificate

• Fire arm certificated (once assessors have been appointed)

• Code 08/10 driver license

• Computer literate for role

• No criminal record

• Advantageous: Investigator skills / Firearm competencies (hand gun, shotgun, rifle)
